From the PTA
The Clinton Central School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provides a very important and active link between school and home and promotes the welfare of students in our school system. Research shows that parental involvement in a child's education is critical to the child's success in school and later in life. We encourage you to become involved with our Clinton Central School PTA and to take advantage of the opportunities and programs we offer our children.

By attending meetings, volunteering and sharing your ideas with us, the Clinton Central School PTA can keep growing, changing and expanding to meet the needs of the local school community. Click here for the 2017-2018 membership form.

Please contact the PTA at ccsnypta@gmail.com if you're interested in volunteering or have any questions. Thank you in advance for your support!

MemberHub
The NYS PTA has partnered with MemberHub to help local PTA Units communicate with their members! All individuals that currently receive the CCS Weekly Newsletter can log in at Memberhub.com to view the CCS PTA MemberHub and/or join PTA committees (referred to as "Hubs" in MemberHub). Within the next few weeks, we will start sending the newsletter using MemberHub. We noticed that MemberHub emails going to Yahoo email addresses tend to default to the spam folder. Please be sure you add user@memberhub.com to your email contacts to help keep these emails out of your spam folder.

Elementary School Dismissal Survey
Dear Parents,

On September 8th the Elementary School, in response to a potential danger, changed the afternoon dismissal procedures to assure the safety of all the children. Throughout this experience, many parents and teachers reported that they would appreciate a safer dismissal procedure than the one that was in place in the past. The main issue with that procedure was the congestion of parents on the sidewalk and near the doors while all of the students were being dismissed to their buses, and the risk this poses with a number of adults (known and/or unknown) in the same area as students headed to their buses.

Therefore, during the week of September 11th, the following different dismissal procedures were examined and implemented:

#1 - The first procedure was to have the parents come into the building and sign their child out. We received feedback from a number of people that the method was counterproductive in keeping the building secured. It required our building to be wide open while parents were entering the building as the students were exiting. This procedure caused congestion in the hallways and the back parking lot. Based on the feedback we received, we changed the procedure to the one that is currently in place.

#2 - The second procedure (currently in place) - The front sidewalk is closed to pedestrians during bus dismissal. Parents picking up students will be asked to wait at the end of the sidewalks not in the vicinity of students walking to buses. Once the buses depart, all are welcome to the front of the building to retrieve their child/children.

It is important that we receive your feedback in order to help us create the safest and best option for all involved. Please complete the survey so we can examine our procedures and make the necessary adjustments. Your comments on the survey will be related to the newest procedure.

Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility in making our dismissal safer for all.

Sincerely,

Ellen Leuthauser
Elementary School Principal

Clinton Kids Care
Dear Families,

After recent events in Texas, Clinton Elementary has decided to team up with Alvin Jr. High School in Alvin, Texas to lend a helping hand. A Clinton graduate, Katie Dowling Lanza, who is now a school administrator in Texas, connected us with Alvin Jr. High. Being a school of about 850 students, they are in need of items to help their school get back to normal after experiencing devastating loss.

After speaking with a guidance counselor at the school, we learned that they are in need of the following new items:
  • Gray t-shirts (Small- Large adult)
  • Black gym shorts (Small- Large adult)
  • Sneakers (6-11)
  • Jeans (boys & girls)
  • Shirts (boys & girls)
Be on the lookout for a school wide Giving Tree located in the cafeteria at Open House, Thursday, September 21st.

Any donated items can be sent in to your child's classroom. We would like to have all donations in by Thursday, October 12th.

We thank you in advance for any donations!

Observer-Dispatch Outstanding Teacher Series

To nominate your favorite Clinton teacher, send an email to Amy Neff Roth at aroth@uticaod.com with the teacher's name, school, subject, number of years in the district, contact information for someone who could help arrange an interview and photograph, and a letter of nomination (which may be quoted from in an article) with the name and title of the author.
