PTA News

From the PTA
The Clinton Central School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provides a very important and active link between school and home and promotes the welfare of students in our school system. Research shows that parental involvement in a child's education is critical to the child's success in school and later in life. We encourage you to become involved with our Clinton Central School PTA and to take advantage of the opportunities and programs we offer our children.

By attending meetings, volunteering and sharing your ideas with us, the Clinton Central School PTA can keep growing, changing and expanding to meet the needs of the local school community. Click here for the 2017-2018 membership form.

Please contact the PTA at ccsnypta@gmail.com if you're interested in volunteering or have any questions. Thank you in advance for your support!

Elementary School Dismissal Survey
Dear Parents,

On September 8th the Elementary School, in response to a potential danger, changed the afternoon dismissal procedures to assure the safety of all the children. Throughout this experience, many parents and teachers reported that they would appreciate a safer dismissal procedure than the one that was in place in the past. The main issue with that procedure was the congestion of parents on the sidewalk and near the doors while all of the students were being dismissed to their buses, and the risk this poses with a number of adults (known and/or unknown) in the same area as students headed to their buses.

Therefore, during the week of September 11th, the following different dismissal procedures were examined and implemented:

#1 - The first procedure was to have the parents come into the building and sign their child out. We received feedback from a number of people that the method was counterproductive in keeping the building secured. It required our building to be wide open while parents were entering the building as the students were exiting. This procedure caused congestion in the hallways and the back parking lot. Based on the feedback we received, we changed the procedure to the one that is currently in place.

#2 - The second procedure (currently in place) - The front sidewalk is closed to pedestrians during bus dismissal. Parents picking up students will be asked to wait at the end of the sidewalks not in the vicinity of students walking to buses. Once the buses depart, all are welcome to the front of the building to retrieve their child/children.

It is important that we receive your feedback in order to help us create the safest and best option for all involved. Please complete the survey so we can examine our procedures and make the necessary adjustments. Your comments on the survey will be related to the newest procedure.

Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility in making our dismissal safer for all.

Sincerely,

Ellen Leuthauser
Elementary School Principal

Clinton Kids Care
Dear Families,

After recent events in Texas, Clinton Elementary has decided to team up with Alvin Jr. High School in Alvin, Texas to lend a helping hand. A Clinton graduate, Katie Dowling Lanza, who is now a school administrator in Texas, connected us with Alvin Jr. High. Being a school of about 850 students, they are in need of items to help their school get back to normal after experiencing devastating loss.

After speaking with a guidance counselor at the school, we learned that they are in need of the following new items:
  • Gray t-shirts (Small- Large adult)
  • Black gym shorts (Small- Large adult)
  • Sneakers (6-11)
  • Jeans (boys & girls)
  • Shirts (boys & girls)
Any donated items can be sent in to your child's classroom. We would like to have all donations in by Thursday, October 12th.

We thank you in advance for any donations!

Observer-Dispatch Outstanding Teacher Series
The Observer-Dispatch is running an Outstanding Teacher series this year. The OD will choose several teachers from among those nominated and run a profile of one teacher each month. In the Spring they will choose one Teacher of the Year from among those featured. To nominate your favorite Clinton teacher, send an email to Amy Neff Roth at aroth@uticaod.com with the teacher's name, school, subject, number of years in the district, contact information for someone who could help arrange an interview and photograph, and a letter of nomination (which may be quoted from in an article) with the name and title of the author. Girls and Boys Cross Country News
Girls and Boys Cross Country teams off to a "running start"!
The Girls Varsity Cross Country team is currently 6-0 in Center State Conference league play having defeated:
Canastota, Herkimer, Cooperstown, Adirondack, Waterville & Oriskany so far...
Junior Eva Borton (Currently ranked as the #1 XC runner out of all New York State Class C schools!) has won both Major weekend invitationals that the Warriors have attended.
She was the winner in her race at the VVS invitational on 9/9/17 and was also victorious for the 3rd year "running" at the New Hartford invitational over this past weekend.
9th grader Taylor Harvey (State ranked #8 out of all New York Class C schools) finished second to Borton at the New Hartford invite and Senior Taylor Highers finished 4th with an inspirational kick at the finish to set the tone for the day.
The girls captured the small school team championship and were also the over-all meet champions.
The Boys Varsity team is also currently 6-0 in Center State Conference league play having defeated:
Canastota, Herkimer, Cooperstown, Adirondack, Waterville & Oriskany as well.
At New Hartford, the boys team (led by Senior Andy Ford) had an outstanding team performance and used it's senior laden depth to capture the small school team championship title.
The double win was an outstanding feather in the program's cap this early in the season.
Next Wednesday the teams travel to West Canada Valley for a 6-way CSC meet with WCV, Poland, Little Falls, Dolgeville & Mount Markham.
The team is also preparing for a run at repeating as "double winners" at the E.J. Herrman Invitational at Proctor Park next Saturday 9/30/17
Both the Boys and Girls captured team titles last year with CJ Militello wining the individual boys race to lead the team to victory and Emma Novak doing the same to set the pace for the girls team victory.
Two years ago Gab Dewhurst was the individual race winner making the E.J. Herrman race a "Clinton Girl's race" for the last two years...and counting.
