Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Gifts

Dear Parents,

Each year in celebration of National Teacher Appreciation Week, the Clinton Central School PTA hosts a luncheon to honor and celebrate our teachers, faculty, and staff. Everyone who is employed by the district, from administrators to crossing guards, is invited to attend and the PTA provides a beautifully catered multi-course lunch buffet. It is one of our favorite events of the year and we always look forward to honoring our wonderful school employees on this day.

One of the highlights of the luncheon is a long-standing tradition of raffling off door prizes. Each person who attends the luncheon is given a ticket upon entering and throughout the meal volunteers draw tickets to select the winners. It is an extremely fun part of the day and we love being able to send our favorite people home with a gift of appreciation.

Now that you know a little about the event, here is where we are asking for your help. The PTA provides all of the food and supplies for the event, but we are in need of door prizes to raffle off. Anything that you can send in will be greatly appreciated and the more gifts we receive, the more we can raffle off. Some years we have been able to give each guest a gift - that’s about 200 gifts!

This year if you would like to contribute, you have two choices the PTA website has a new link where you can donate directly

https://ccs-appreciation.cheddarup.com/

Or you can send your donation to the Elementary School Office and they will be picked up by one of our volunteers. The date of this year’s luncheon is May 10th and we would need all items by Monday May, 7th. Please be aware that your donation may not go to your child’s teacher, we raffle all donations off so everyone who attends has a chance to go home with a thank you gift.

Listed below are some ideas of what can be sent in, but please feel free to be creative. If it’s easier, you can even send in money and we’ll do the shopping for you!

If you would like more information about this event or if you would like to help out in other ways, please email us at ccsnypta@gmail.com and once again, THANK YOU for your continued support.

Sincerely,

The CCS PTA

Congratulations Middle School Upstanders!

Congratulations Upstanders!

Rachel’s Warriors proudly awarded and recognized our middle school upstanders for the months of January and March on Tuesday, March 27th at our Board of Education meeting. These students were awarded with a certificate, a pizza party and a free dance admission ticket.

An upstander is an individual who notices something wrong and acts on it. It is a person who takes a stand against an act of injustice or intolerance. All of these students did this in some way and were anonymously nominated by a peer.

Congratulations to these students for creating a kind and caring community at Clinton Central Middle School!

No one Sits Alone Day/Start with Hello Kick Off

On Friday, April 6th Rachel’s Warriors hosted “no one sits alone day” during lunch for our middle school students. It was a huge success! The purpose of the event was to encourage students to include each other and by doing so will help others who may feel isolated and help spread kindness.

Various activities were set up at each table for students to participate in. Some of these activities included hello cards written in different languages, students wore name tags to help with introductions, kindness message strips that students could randomly choose and implement throughout the day, and a fun photo booth.

Rachel’s Warriors will be encouraging students to be involved in the “start with hello” program throughout the remainder of the year. We hope that students will help spread kindness and prevent social isolation by following these three easy steps:

  1. See someone alone
  2. Reach out and help
  3. Start with “hello”

Frank Santoli Memorial Award
Clinton students are changing the world for the better! Each fall and spring, students are nominated by their teachers and CCS staff members to receive the Frank Santoli Memorial Award. Students are recognized for their good citizenship and acts of kindness in memory of a beloved middle school science teacher. The award was created and funded by Mrs. Genevieve Santoli, who was inspired not only by her husband’s legacy of kindness, but also by the late Chris Rosati and the butterfly effect: “this idea that a single butterfly flapping its wings on one side of the globe can, in theory, start a hurricane on the other.” In the spirit of positive impact, selected students from are awarded $50 to “pay it forward” within their communities. All nominated students are celebrated in May with cupcakes and a butterfly release. While so many awards are focused on achievement in academics or athletics, the Santoli award is an opportunity for students to be recognized for their integrity and strength of character.

Through the award Clinton students have:

  • Sold raffle tickets to raise over $1,000 for the Golisano Center wish list items
  • Started a coin drive to raise over $600 for a local animal shelter
  • Bought items and brought volunteers to stock local food pantry
  • Created a raffle to raise money to benefit the fire department
  • Bought supplies for ongoing curriculum to teach kindergartners about the lifecycle of chickens
  • Donated toys/supplies to local pet shelter
  • Donated recreational items to local nursing home
In the fall, Charlotte Gale, Landon Stilz, and Bozhena Samoshuk were selected as Santoli award winners. Spring recipients will be announced in May.

The Santoli Scholarship is run through Rachel’s Warriors. Advisors Kathleen Washburn and Amie Johnson are deeply grateful to Mrs. Genevieve Santoli and other donors who make this award possible. It is exciting to see CCS students empowered to make such positive change. For more information on this award, please contact kwashburn@ccs.edu or ajohnson@ccs.edu

Elementary School Green Team News

Green Team Message of the Week

Molly Call and Leah Alteri presented this week’s Green Team message to the elementary school.

Earth Day is coming up on April 22. This year, Earth Day is focused on ending plastic pollution.

Look around you. From water bottles to plastic silverware to all those plastic bags from the grocery store, plastic is everywhere. Plastic does make our lives easier, but it can also harm our environment.

The problem is that a lot of the plastic we use never gets recycled. Instead it ends up as pollution on our ground and in our oceans where it can harm wildlife like whales, birds, seals, and turtles.

Here are some easy things that you can do to use less plastic. Buy a reusable water bottle instead of using plastic water bottles. Bring your own cloth bags to the grocery store. Pack your lunch with reusable containers and silverware instead of plastic. Please help us reduce the plastic pollution in our environment.

Let’s continue to recycle and make our school and community greener!

Crayon and Marker Recycling

At our weekly meeting, Green Team members sorted crayons and markers to get them ready to be shipped for recycling. Thank you to the PTA for providing the boxes and shipping these items to be recycled. The elementary school will have many more crayons and markers to recycle by the end of the year.

Elementary Arbor Day Ceremony - Friday, April 20, 10:00 AM
Dear Families,

Our annual Elementary Arbor Day ceremony will take place on the morning of April 20th at 10:00. Once again Hamilton College is donating the tree for us to plant. You are welcome to attend and we encourage you to stay and be a "cheerleader".

This year our ceremony will include a school wide lap around the track to raise money to give to our school's "Green Team". The "Green Team" is made up of students and teachers that generate ideas to make our school more environmentally friendly. This money will be used to buy items to make our school more "green" including purchasing rain barrels and composting bins. If you would like to help your child raise money, please consider sponsoring him/her to "walk a lap for the Green Team." If your child feels comfortable asking other people (grandparents, close family friends, etc.) to sponsor him/her that would be great! The monetary donation is up to you. All children will participate in the walk after our ceremony is complete. The ceremony will take place outside so please make sure your child is prepared for the weather with an umbrella or raincoat.

Please send all donations in an envelope marked "Arbor Day" with your child's name on it to school by Monday, April 30th.

Our ceremony will take place near our playground by the nature trail. We will cross the wooden bridge to our track to complete our lap. We are asking that family members that attend find a spot on the outside of the track to cheer us on! When we complete our lap we will go back into our classrooms.

Thank you for being an active supporter of our school events and for helping to make this ceremony even more special. Your donation will make the world a greener, cleaner place for many generations to come.

Thank you,

The Arbor Day Team
