Dear CCS PTA Scholarship Applicant:

This year, the Clinton Central School PTA is offering up to three $500 scholarships to graduating seniors in the Clinton Central School District. To apply for this scholarship, please submit a short essay in response to the following:

The Clinton Central School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provides a link between school and home and works to enrich the educational experience of children in the district. The CCS PTA has close to 100 volunteers that are split into a number of committees that work on various events, programs, and fundraisers throughout the school year. Our volunteers are critical to the success of these activities.

In one page, tell us an activity you've been involved with during high school and relate it to the work done by the PTA.

Your essay should be 250-300 words and free of grammatical errors and misspellings. Please do not include any identifying information on the essay page, as the recipient will be chosen solely based on the essay. You can submit your essay, along with a separate page with your name and home address, to the student counseling office to the attention of Ms. Jennifer Edmunds. All applications must be received no later than May 15, 2018.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Gifts

Dear Parents,

Each year in celebration of National Teacher Appreciation Week, the Clinton Central School PTA hosts a luncheon to honor and celebrate our teachers, faculty, and staff. Everyone who is employed by the district, from administrators to crossing guards, is invited to attend and the PTA provides a beautifully catered multi-course lunch buffet. It is one of our favorite events of the year and we always look forward to honoring our wonderful school employees on this day.

One of the highlights of the luncheon is a long-standing tradition of raffling off door prizes. Each person who attends the luncheon is given a ticket upon entering and throughout the meal volunteers draw tickets to select the winners. It is an extremely fun part of the day and we love being able to send our favorite people home with a gift of appreciation.

Now that you know a little about the event, here is where we are asking for your help. The PTA provides all of the food and supplies for the event, but we are in need of door prizes to raffle off. Anything that you can send in will be greatly appreciated and the more gifts we receive, the more we can raffle off. Some years we have been able to give each guest a gift - that’s about 200 gifts!

This year if you would like to contribute, you have two choices the PTA website has a new link where you can donate directly

https://ccs-appreciation.cheddarup.com/

Or you can send your donation to the Elementary School Office and they will be picked up by one of our volunteers. The date of this year’s luncheon is May 10th and we would need all items by Monday May, 7th. Please be aware that your donation may not go to your child’s teacher, we raffle all donations off so everyone who attends has a chance to go home with a thank you gift.

Listed below are some ideas of what can be sent in, but please feel free to be creative. If it’s easier, you can even send in money and we’ll do the shopping for you!

If you would like more information about this event or if you would like to help out in other ways, please email us at ccsnypta@gmail.com and once again, THANK YOU for your continued support.

Sincerely,

The CCS PTA

Kindergarten Fairy Tale Fun Day
The Kindergarten classes have recently finished up a unit about fairly tales, where they read many stories and learned how to identify the main characters, setting, problems and solutions of a story. They celebrated the conclusion of the unit with a Fairy Tale Fun Day! The students designed magic wands and shields, decorated their own crowns, retold their favorite fairy tale with stick puppets, and best of all, decorated gingerbread men.

Second Graders Learn all about Mealworms
Over the last several weeks, second graders at Clinton Elementary school have been learning about and observing the lifecycles of live mealworms in their classrooms. They watched as each mealworm transformed from its larva form into a pupa and then into an adult Darkling Beetle. The beetles will then lay hundreds of eggs and the cycle starts all over again. The students learned how to take care of their mealworms and treat them with respect. The students even made paper houses for them so they would have a nice environment to look at.

Many of the second graders decided that they would like to bring their mealworms home to continue their observation. They wrote persuasive letters to their parents, hoping to convince them to sign a permission slip to allow them to bring their mealworms home. It has been a very exciting time to be a second grader!
