CCS PTA Scholarships Available to Graduating Seniors

Clinton Central School
Parent Teacher Association

Dear CCS PTA Scholarship Applicant:

This year, the Clinton Central School PTA is offering up to three $500 scholarships to graduating seniors in the Clinton Central School District. To apply for this scholarship, please submit a short essay in response to the following:

The Clinton Central School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provides a link between school and home and works to enrich the educational experience of children in the district. The CCS PTA has close to 100 volunteers that are split into a number of committees that work on various events, programs, and fundraisers throughout the school year. Our volunteers are critical to the success of these activities.

In one page, tell us an activity you've been involved with during high school and relate it to the work done by the PTA.

Your essay should be 250-300 words and free of grammatical errors and misspellings. Please do not include any identifying information on the essay page, as the recipient will be chosen solely based on the essay. You can submit your essay, along with a separate page with your name and home address, to the student counseling office to the attention of Ms. Jennifer Edmunds. All applications must be received no later than May 15, 2018.

Very Truly Yours,

The 2017-2018 CCS PTA Executive Board

** Please note that additional scholarship opportunities can be found on the Counseling Office's web page.

Clinton Volunteer Recognized by Region and State PTA

On May 8th, Amy Smith was recognized by the Leatherstocking Region PTA and the NYS PTA for her volunteerism and dedication within the Clinton Central School PTA! Amy has been the coordinator for the Clinton Elementary School yearbook for a number of years and also helps with other PTA and school events. Even though she doesn't have a child in the elementary school anymore, Amy puts in countless hours of her time to create a beautiful yearbook for our children every year! Without Amy, there would either be no yearbook, or it would be in a sad state! Thank you for all of your hard work, Amy!

Elementary School Green Team News

Green Team News

On Friday, April 20, 2018 the Elementary School celebrated Arbor Day. Gracen Grimm and Kyla LaHart shared the Green Team’s message of the week. Because we were celebrating Arbor Day, our message was about celebrating trees and all the positive things they bring to our lives.

We know that trees make our world more beautiful, but they also do a lot of good things for us. Trees provide oxygen for us to breathe, and they remove pollutants from the air. Trees provide shade to cool us and they reduce the effects of climate change. They also help to clean our water, and they provide habitats for wildlife. It has also been shown that looking at trees relieves stress and may help you to live longer. So, let’s celebrate trees and all they do for us!

A Big Thank You

The Elementary School Green Team would like to thank the Arbor Day Committee and the school community for presenting this year’s Arbor Day donations to the Green Team. The school community generously donated $283 for Arbor Day! We are so thankful for this donation. We are not sure how we will use the money, but we are looking into buying rain barrels and expanding the garden behind the school. We will keep you posted. Thank you so much!

40th Annual KAC Run & Walk and Festival on the Green - Saturday, June 2

2018 is a special year for the KAC Run & Walk. We are celebrating 40 years of this great 5K road race on Saturday, June 2nd in the historic village of Clinton. A lot has changed over the years but the KAC has been a staple in the community throughout.

What was happening back in 1978? The Garfield Comics by Jim Davis debuted, and John Paul II became the Pope. Cult classics like Grease and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope hit the big screen while the Bee Gees’ Night Fever and Stayin’ Alive graced the airwaves for the very first time. Argentina won their first World Cup, beating the Netherlands 3-1 and Space Invaders created a huge market for video games in America. Feel free to wear your 70’s gear for the race!

This year’s race includes a 5K at 4:15pm beginning on Chenango Ave, a One Mile Kids Run (13 & Under) at 3:30 on Chenango Ave, and the KAC Youth Run at 3:00 at the Clinton High School Track for a variety of ages groups. There will be an awards ceremony on the green at 5:30pm. In addition to the competitive race events, the Kirkland Art Center will bring a host of activities and entertainment for the whole family at Clinton’s Village Green.

The Festival on the Green runs from 12:00 - 3:00pm. Join in on the games and activities for children, music and dance performances at the Gazebo and the 4th Annual Baking Contest at 1:00pm. For more information on how to submit your baked goods, or how to enter for a chance to become a guest judge please visit www.kacny.org or call 315.853.8871.

Register early at www.kacny.org for discounts. The 5K Race is $25 and the 1 Mile Kids Race is $15 before May 17. Prices increase to $30 and $20 respectively. The Youth Races are free for all participants.
