Harvest of the Month Sample Schedule

The CCS PTA Farm to School Committee, working with OHM BOCES Food Service and the Mohawk Valley Farm to School Initiative, has launched a new Harvest of the Month sampling program. Harvest of the Month is a Farm to School initiative that promotes a seasonal, locally grown item each month. A day or two before the Harvest of the Month is listed on the menu each month, the elementary school kitchen staff will prepare a batch of the menu item for volunteers to serve samples to students in the cafeteria. The idea is to encourage the students to try something new and maybe even choose it for lunch later in the week. Below is our sample schedule:

Menu Item Sample Date Date Listed on Menu
Asian Cabbage Slaw December 18 December 20
Butternut Squash Soup January 29 January 31
Mini Potatoes February 26 February 28
Honey Carrot Bar March 26 March 28
Black Bean and Corn Salsa April 23 April 25

If you would like to join the Farm to School committee, please email us at farmtoschool@ccspta.info You can also help by encouraging your child to try the samples offered! Thank you for your support!

October - Kindness
The character trait for the month of October was sponsored by the Clinton Middle School student council. Kindness is being caring, compassionate, loving, and considerate. A kind person shows concern for the feelings of others and is helpful and generous. A kind person does good deeds without thought of reward. Teachers in each grade level looked for students helping others, students who display a positive attitude towards peers and adults, and students who consider the feelings of others.
8th Grade

The 8th grade student of the month for October was our own student council president: Nicholas Heselton. Nicholas' teachers recognized him for having the character strength of kindness because he helps his fellow classmates and teachers by having a genuine concern for others. Nick displays a positive attitude towards his peers and adults.

7th Grade

The 7th grade student of the month for October was Lydia Hepler. Lydia's teacher recognized her for displaying kindness to teachers and classmates on a daily basis. 6th Grade

The 6th grade student of the month for October was Gideon Dreier, who is also the 6th grade student council president! Gideon's teachers recognized him for having the character strength of kindness because he often helps his classmates when they have questions. He treats all of his peers with kindness without ever being asked.

November - Gratitude
The character trait for the month of November was sponsored by the Clinton Middle School student council. Gratitude is being aware of the good things that happen to you, and never taking them for granted. A student who displays gratitude takes the time to express thanks to peers, friends, teachers, and family members. Teachers looked for students who show appreciation, use manners (please and thank you), and who express how thankful they are for the positive things in life.
8th Grade

The 8th grade student of the month for November was Alaina Gelinas. Alaina is appreciative, grateful, kind, and caring. Her teachers nominated her because she displays the character strength of gratitude to everyone she sees throughout the day. Alaina is polite to both her peers and adults.

7th Grade

The 7th grade student of the month for November was Tyler Royce. When faced with an obstacle or challenge, Tyler shows appreciation to others that offer help. His teachers nominated Tyler because they appreciate his manners and display of thanks that they see in their classrooms.
