Harvest of the Month Sample Schedule

The CCS PTA Farm to School Committee, working with OHM BOCES Food Service and the Mohawk Valley Farm to School Initiative, has launched a new Harvest of the Month sampling program. Harvest of the Month is a Farm to School initiative that promotes a seasonal, locally grown item each month. A day or two before the Harvest of the Month is listed on the menu each month, the elementary school kitchen staff will prepare a batch of the menu item for volunteers to serve samples to students in the cafeteria. The idea is to encourage the students to try something new and maybe even choose it for lunch later in the week. Below is our sample schedule:

Menu Item Sample Date Date Listed on Menu
Butternut Squash Soup January 29 January 31
Mini Potatoes February 26 February 28
Honey Carrot Bar March 26 March 28
Black Bean and Corn Salsa April 23 April 25
Cheesy Kale Bake May 21 May 23
Cucumber Yogurt Dip June 4 June 6

If you would like to join the Farm to School committee, please email us at farmtoschool@ccspta.info You can also help by encouraging your child to try the samples offered! Thank you for your support!

Priciples of Engineering LED Light Display

You've probably noticed this large LED light display in front of the district office. This was a project created by students in the high school Principles of Engineering class with Mr. Owens. Students learned about electrical circuits and created a 16 channel power relay that can be programmed using an Aurduino along with the structure for holding the lights. The plan is to add to the display and a new program to control the lights annually as part of the course. If you would like to see this project grow, you can donate lights to the program by contacting Mr. Owens at towens@ccs.edu.

VEX Robotics Event - Saturday, January 12

Robotics Club will attend a VEX Robotics Competition at Liverpool High School on Saturday, January 12. This is an all day event (8-10 hours) from approximately 7am to 5pm. Students should pack a meal, or bring money to buy food/drink there. All students in grades 7 - 12 are welcome to attend and need to sign up in the MS/HS offices by Jan 4th. Parents can contact Travis Owens (towens@ccs.edu) for more information.

LEAP Recycling For Charity
The high school's LEAP Club (Leaders in Environmental Awareness and Protection) is proud to announce a new recycling initiative for personal hygiene/beauty products and packaging. For each item that that we recycle, we will earn money towards a charity that digs wells for communities in developing nations. If everyone in our district contributes 20 items, the profits will provide 200 people with a year's worth of clean drinking water. Place your used products and empty containers in the collection boxes in the high school office, middle school office, and elementary school hallway (beside the boxtop collection box) to alleviate thirst and keep these items out of our landfill!

Accepted Used Items
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste tubes and caps
  • Floss containers
  • Deodorant containers and caps
  • Hair product tubes and caps
  • Soap/lotion/shampoo dispensers

About the Instructor:

Pam King has been teaching Mat Pilates classes for sixteen years. She started teaching after her fourth son was born and found that it personally helped her increase her strength, flexibility and metabolism as well as decrease her stress.

About Pilates:

Pilates is a safe, sensible exercise system using a floor mat or equipment, that will help you look and feel your very best. No matter what your age or condition, it will work for you. No other exercise system is so gentle to your body while giving it a challenging workout. Many of the exercises are performed in reclining or sitting positions, and most are low impact and partially weight bearing. Pilates is so safe, it is used in physical therapy facilities to rehabilitate injuries. Modifications to the exercises allow for a range of difficulty ranging from beginning to advanced.
