Harvest of the Month Sample Schedule

The CCS PTA Farm to School Committee, working with OHM BOCES Food Service and the Mohawk Valley Farm to School Initiative, has launched a new Harvest of the Month sampling program. Harvest of the Month is a Farm to School initiative that promotes a seasonal, locally grown item each month. A day or two before the Harvest of the Month is listed on the menu each month, the elementary school kitchen staff will prepare a batch of the menu item for volunteers to serve samples to students in the cafeteria. The idea is to encourage the students to try something new and maybe even choose it for lunch later in the week. Below is our sample schedule:

Menu Item Sample Date Date Listed on Menu
Honey Carrot Bar March 26 March 28
Black Bean and Corn Salsa April 23 April 25
Cheesy Kale Bake May 21 May 23
Cucumber Yogurt Dip June 4 June 6

If you would like to join the Farm to School committee, please email us at farmtoschool@ccspta.info You can also help by encouraging your child to try the samples offered! Thank you for your support!

Green Team News

The Green Team has been busy planting seeds for our school vegetable garden. We are starting plants indoors now and hope to plant them in the garden behind the school in May. We planted tomatoes, basil, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, and carrots. We also planted marigolds to keep animals and insects away from our plants. We have some sprouts growing already in our mini-green house. We'll keep you posted on how our garden is growing!

Positivity Project - Love of Learning
This school year, CCS is participating in the Positivity Project. A different character trait or topic is highlighted and discussed at school each week. This week's topic is Love of Learning. According to the Positivity Project's Weekly Roundup:

Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don't need a prize or a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.

People who love learning experience positive feelings in the process of acquiring skills, building on existing knowledge, or learning something completely new. Over time, individuals with this strength may develop deep and wide knowledge. Their knowledge enables them to make significant contributions to others' understanding.

Visit The Positivity Project's website to learn more and to sign up for the weekly newsletter.

Used Soccer Equipment Needed

My name is Celso Vasquez. I am a Junior at Clinton High School. I was a student in Guatemala until I was 13 years old. Many of the children in Guatemala lack equipment to play soccer and resort to playing with grocery bags rolled into a ball.

For a class project I would like to send these unfortunate children used soccer equipment that your children have outgrown. There is a drop off box located at Access Federal Credit Union in Clinton, NY and at the Clinton Elementary School and High School.

Collection will be starting on March 1st lasting through April 30th.

Items should fit students ages 6 - 11.

  • Cleats / sneakers
  • Deflated soccer balls
  • Shin guards
  • Jerseys
  • Goalie gloves
  • Shorts
  • Soccer Socks

Thank you!

LEAP Recycling For Charity
The high school's LEAP Club (Leaders in Environmental Awareness and Protection) is proud to announce a new recycling initiative for personal hygiene/beauty products and packaging. For each item that that we recycle, we will earn money towards a charity that digs wells for communities in developing nations. If everyone in our district contributes 20 items, the profits will provide 200 people with a year's worth of clean drinking water. Place your used products and empty containers in the collection boxes in the high school office, middle school office, and elementary school hallway (beside the boxtop collection box) to alleviate thirst and keep these items out of our landfill!

Accepted Used Items
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste tubes and caps
  • Floss containers
  • Deodorant containers and caps
  • Hair product tubes and caps
  • Soap/lotion/shampoo dispensers
  • Hair spray triggers
