Up-Stander Awards
On December 19th we recognized four individuals as being up-standers at CCS middle school.
An up-stander is someone who takes a stand against bullying and sticks up for someone in a bullying situation.
These students were anonymously acknowledged by teachers or peers for being an up-stander.
Congratulations!
Thank you for making CCS middle school a more kind and caring community!
Up-standers from left to right: Ariana Febus, Kyler Stoddard, Benjamin Copperwheat (absent: Ava Brice)
The Great Kindness Challenge
The official 2020 Great Kindness challenge week will be the week of January 27th-January 31st.
This is a challenge to encourage students to do as many kind deeds as possible in one week.
Rachel’s Warriors encourages students to be kind to others all year but this is a week when we especially try to spread awareness to both students and families.
We will be asking students to write down acts of kindness that they see or do on kindness strips.
Our goal will be to create a large kindness chain to stretch around the halls of the middle school.
Our hope is that it will encourage students to be extra kind this week but to also practice kindness all year long.
Information about the kindness challenge can be found at https://thegreatkindnesschallenge.com.
Acts of kindness can be done at home too!
Check out the family edition of the kindness challenge at the website above.

Masquerade Dance
Rachel’s Warriors hosted the middle school masquerade dance on Friday, January 10th.
We had a great turn out and a lot of fun.
Students enjoyed a photo booth, Masquerade masks, hats, boas, and beads.
Jamie Tuttle from the Oneida Herkimer Solid Waste Authority spoke to the Green Team members at our meeting this week. She taught the students all about recycling and answered many questions. She also handed out recycling posters and pencils made from recycled money. The students enjoyed her presentation and learned a lot!
Each morning during Good Morning America, WUTR broadcasts a clip of a class from a local school reciting the Pledge of allegiance. Ms. Mercer's classroom was featured this week. Keep an eye out for Mrs. Roy's class on January 16, Mrs. Dunn's class on January 20, Mrs. Karas's class on January 22, and Mrs. Heintz's class on January 24. The Indoor track teams have been busy since the end of December.
The boys have placed 3rd in the last two 30+ school meets and the girls have placed 2nd in both as well.
Several relay records have fallen this season so far:
On the Girls side, Junior Taylor Harvey and Sophomore Madison Luke teamed up to break the 2x1000 record with an aggregate time of 6:23.64 (old record was 6:29.24 set in 2001/02 by Jenny Ryan and Meaghen Dunn)
Luke also teamed up with Junior Emily Hemstrought to break the 2xMile record with an aggregate time of 11:19.64 (old record 11:24.95 set in 2016/17 by Emma Novak and Taylor Harvey)
Junior Madeline Walters and Sophomore Jenna Deep combined for a 58' 6.50" total in the 2x20 pound weight throw relay (surpassing the old mark of 58' 2.25 set by Libby Militello and Brenna Masner in 2017/18)
The girls 2xPole Vault record has had some interesting developments as it has been tied TWICE this year with 2 different combinations involving 3 different athletes! This record is now "shared" by 5 different athletes in 3 different combinations!
Senior Piper Davignon & Junior Katie Dewhurst first teamed up with a combined 16' 6" to tie the "old" record of Hannah Shankman & Marissa Cornelius from 2013/14. Davignon then teamed up with sophomore Claire Barone to again equal that mark.
On the boys end:
Seniors Luke Stell & Matt Lewis combined for 17.42 to break the old record of 17.53 in the 2x55HH set by Luke Stell & Justin Stell just last season.
