Scholastic Book Fair
Melissa Williams has done a phenomenal job of organizing and running the Scholastic Book fair at Clinton Elementary for the last few years and is now ready to hang up her hat. The PTA needs one or two volunteers to take over her duties as chair of the Book Fair committee for the 2018-2019 school year.

Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinating with Scholastic and the elementary school principal and librarian
  • Organizing volunteers for setup and to help students during their library time
  • Acting as cashier for book purchases
  • Working with the PTA treasurer
It would be great to have a committee chair ready before the spring Book Fair as this would allow them to work and "train" with Melissa on her final sale. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact the PTA at ccsnypta@gmail.com.

From the Health Office: When to Keep Your Child Home From School
Flu season is here!

When to Keep Your Child Home From School:
  • Fever higher than 100.5
  • Vomiting or Diarrhea
  • Becomes short of breath or is wheezing
  • Has a cough that disrupts normal activity
  • Has distracting pain from earache, headache, sore throat or recent injury
  • Has yellow or green discharge from the nose
  • Breaks out in a rash; not all rashes require that a child stay home from school. Check with your child's doctor.
BUT REMEMBER
  • School is a child's work. It is important for normal development. If your child is absent often, it may be harder to keep up with the class. It is important your child does not miss more than a few days of school a year due to illness.
  • Ask your doctor if you are not sure about keeping your child home.
  • It is not too late to get a flu shot!

Green Team News
Thank you to all of the families who collected and sent in plastic film to be recycled. The Elementary School collected 159 pounds of plastic film! (This is a correction from our previously reported total.) Although we did not win the challenge, we recycled a lot of plastic film. This helps our environment by recycling these items and keeping them out of our region's landfill.

Now that the challenge is over, families can continue to collect plastic film items and recycle them at many retail and grocery stores. Please check the list to see which plastic film items can be recycled. Also, please remember that these items cannot be recycled in your curbside bin. For more information on what can be recycled and where, please visit:

https://www.plasticfilmrecycling.org/

The Green Team will continue to work on making our school and community greener. For more information, please contact Denise Toia-Kramer at dtoiakramer@ccs.edu.
