Scholastic Book Fair
Melissa Williams has done a phenomenal job of organizing and running the Scholastic Book fair at Clinton Elementary for the last few years and is now ready to hang up her hat. The PTA needs one or two volunteers to take over her duties as chair of the Book Fair committee for the 2018-2019 school year.

Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinating with Scholastic and the elementary school principal and librarian
  • Organizing volunteers for setup and to help students during their library time
  • Acting as cashier for book purchases
  • Working with the PTA treasurer
It would be great to have a committee chair ready before the spring Book Fair as this would allow them to work and "train" with Melissa on her final sale. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact the PTA at ccsnypta@gmail.com.

Elementary School Green Team Newsletter - Week of 2/5/18
Students from the Green Team are now reading a morning message about recycling and helping our environment to the school every Friday morning.

On Friday, January 26, Matthew Orendorff and Andrew Williams presented the first Green Team message. They asked teachers and students to check their classrooms to make sure that each room has a recycling bin placed near the garbage bin. Each room should also have a recycling poster so teachers and students can find out where to put different items. Families can make recycling easier at home by putting their recycling bin in a convenient location. For posters or other information, families can visit http://www.ohswa.org/

For the second Green Team morning message, Natalie Cortright and Hannah Botelho presented information about plastic bottles on Friday, February 2. Did you know that Americans use 4 million plastic bottles every hour? And only 1 out of 4 is recycled! It's better to use a reusable bottle, but if you do use a plastic bottle, be sure to recycle it in the blue bin. You can even leave the cap on, but make sure it's empty. Recycled plastic bottles can be turned into lots of things such as t-shirts, fleece jackets, and carpeting. It takes about 10 bottles to make a new t-shirt.

The Green Team will continue to work on making our school and community greener. For more information, please contact Denise Toia-Kramer at dtoiakramer@ccs.edu.

Building Your Story: A Guide to Writing and Drawing Your Graphic Story - Saturday, February 17, 10 am

Manual Cinema's performance of Ada/Ava - Saturday, February 17, 7:30 pm

Hamilton College Performing Arts continues the spring season with Manual Cinema's performance of Ada/Ava on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center.

Manual Cinema combines handmade shadow puppetry, cinematic techniques, and music to create live cinema with puppets and shadow. Using vintage overhead projectors, multiple screens, puppets, actors, live feed cameras, multi-channel sound design, and a live music ensemble, Manual Cinema transforms the experience of attending the cinema into a theater production.

Bereaved of her twin sister Ava, septuagenarian Ada solitarily marks time in the patterns of a life built for two. However, a traveling carnival and a trip to a mirror maze plunges her into a journey across the thresholds of life and death. Set in a landscape of the New England gothic, Ada/Ava uses a story of the fantastic and super natural to explore mourning and melancholy, self and other.

The Performing Arts Series is sponsored, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and Hamilton employees, and $5 for students. All seating is general admission. For tickets or information, call the box office at 315-859-4331 or visit hamilton.edu/performingarts.
