Farm to School Sample Day - Kale Dusted Popcorn
Last month, the Clinton Elementary kitchen staff held a recipe contest in which students could submit recipes containing the May Harvest of the Month, kale. The winning recipe, which was submitted by Max Gray, was for Kale Dusted Popcorn. On Thursday, May 16, samples of Kale Dusted Popcorn were distributed in the cafeteria. It was a big hit with students! Thank you so much to our volunteers that served samples, the kitchen staff for preparing the popcorn, and to the students for submitting recipes and for their willingness to try new things! Also a BIG thank you to Farm to School Mohawk Valley for bringing Farm to School to Clinton!

Farm to School Sample Day - Cheesy Kale Bake

"Better than pizza!" "So yummy!" "10 out of 10!" "100 thumbs up!" "Cheesy!" "Delicious!"

Those are just a few of the ways students at Clinton Elementary described our May Harvest of the Month Recipe- Cheesy Kale Bake!

Harvest of the Month Sample Schedule

The CCS PTA Farm to School Committee, working with OHM BOCES Food Service and the Mohawk Valley Farm to School Initiative, has launched a new Harvest of the Month sampling program. Harvest of the Month is a Farm to School initiative that promotes a seasonal, locally grown item each month. A day or two before the Harvest of the Month is listed on the menu each month, the elementary school kitchen staff will prepare a batch of the menu item for volunteers to serve samples to students in the cafeteria. The idea is to encourage the students to try something new and maybe even choose it for lunch later in the week. Below is our sample schedule:

Menu Item Sample Date Date Listed on Menu
Cucumber Yogurt Dip June 11 June 13

If you would like to join the Farm to School committee, please email us at farmtoschool@ccspta.info You can also help by encouraging your child to try the samples offered! Thank you for your support!
